Wayne Johnson Obituary

Wayne Thomas Johnson, 81, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 at The Waters of Princeton. He was born January 20, 1942 to the late Burl “Nub” Logan Johnson and Lotha Mae (Clingman) Johnson. He worked in the construction industry for a number of years and was a member of New Life Church of the Nazarene in Princeton. Wayne was baptized at Bethel AME Church in Pinkstaff, Illinois and he knew who God was. He loved being a mechanic and the people’s lives he touched will never forget him. If you needed a hand, he was there. Wayne had a big heart and was a “man’s man”. He’d do anything for anyone and would only ask for people to be who they were and accept him as he was as well.

Wayne is survived by his children, Thomas Johnson, Lynnette Viney, Burl Johnson, Aubry Ashby, and Reggie Bridgewater; step-children, Felica Gregg, Robin, Desiren, and Bug; grandchildren, Ryan Portee, Thomas E. Young, Alley Stevens, Christina Reinhart, Quinten Johnson, Terrance Payton, Anthony and  Denzell Sanford, Phillip Thomas, Sha’Ron, Ka’Ron, and Da’Ron Glass, Cam’Ron Bridgewater, Michael Smith, Jason Powell, Tyana Bigsby, Darius Powell, Keyandra Bigsby, Keaud Bigsby, Mantez Armstrong, Kristin Armstrong, Jasmine Verge, Quiana Parker, Niketa Bigsby, and Maxine Simmons; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Rosalie McCord, Darlene “Sue” Pullen, Berdena McGile, Earl E. Johnson (Robyn); numerous nieces and nephews; and very good friends, Kenna Berry and Nicole Burns.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Johnson; and daughter, Patricia Sanford.

The family will host a gathering of family and friends at a later date.
