Ronald Lee Doerner, 80, of Oakland City, passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. He was born March 22, 1939 in Gibson County to the late Beverly Otto & Audrey (Lecocq) Doerner and graduated Mackey High School. He spent most of his life in the Eastern Gibson County area and married Darlene (Holder) Doerner on October 15, 1960. He worked at Kent/Ball Plastics for 30 plus years then retired from Whirlpool. Ronald was a member of the Somerville Wesleyan Church where he served in the past on the Church Board. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and hunting for deer, rabbits, squirrels, arrow heads, and even mushrooms. He was an avid music lover playing guitar, singing, and playing piano. Ronald was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew him.
Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Darlene Doerner; sons, Brett (Debra) Doerner, Michael Doerner, and Mark Doerner; son-in-law, Ronald Green, Jr.; 12 grandchildren, Brandy Ellerbruck, Claude (Tara) Green, Ronald (Shannon) Green III, Josh Green, Ashley Ellerbruck, Devon (Amber) Green, Christopher J. (Jacki) Doerner, Brittney (Ben) Overfield, Brooke (Kaleb) Nossett, Colton Doerner, Mitchell (Tesha) Doerner, and Natasha Doerner; 31 great-grandchildren, Joseph Blayne Ellerbruck, Karen Green, Rease Green, Willow Green, Mekhi Green, Taylor Kennedy, Joey Green, Sebastian Green, Jerzey Green, Jonas Green, Landen Ellerbruck, Aleyah Ellerbruck, Brylee Ellerbruck, Adalyn Green, Spencer Cannon, Christopher Ryan Doerner, Tori Doerner, Weston Overfield, Wyatt Overfield, Bella Overfield, Owen Nossett, Gunner Nossett, Kimber Nossett, Raelyn Doerner, River Doerner, Abby Doerner, Keegan Doerner, Kaden Doerner, Damien Maier, Dreagan Doerner, and Ryker Doerner; siblings, Richard (Delores) Doerner, Patty Vaughn, Lester (Terry) Doerner, and Teresa Motley; brother-in-law, Alan Butcher; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sherry (Doerner) Green; granddaughter, Krystal Maier; great-grandson, Noah Green; sisters, Beverly Knight and Sharon Butcher; and grandson-in-law, Joe Ellerbruck.
The Doerner family is hosting a Celebration of Life at 2:30 PM Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Somerville Wesleyan Church officiated by Reverend David Brandon. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:30 until service time, 2:30 PM at the church. A burial of ashes will be held at a later date at Townsley Cemetery in Mackey.
