Lela Pierce Obituary

Lela “Kay” (Lawson) Pierce, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of July 20, 2022 at her home in Patoka, IN.

Kay was born June 8, 1943 in Hawesville, Kentucky to Sheril and Pauline (Frashure) Lawson.  On January 10, 1963 she married Roy Pierce in Owensboro, KY.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sheril and Pauline Lawson, her brothers, John Lawson, Sheril Lawson and Rodger Lawson, her sister, Patricia Jackson and her husband of 48 years, Roy Pierce

Kay is survived by her six children: Paula (Tom) Kennedy of Olin, North Carolina, Martha (Kevin) Anderson of Owensville, IN, Elizabeth (Tim) Wiford of Anderson, IN, David (Christina) Pierce of Borden, IN, Anna (Chris) Besselman of Roseville, MI and Mary (Doug) Derscheid of Evart, MI; her grandchildren: Abigail, Victoria, Cherie (Jon), Nathanael, Dakota, Joseph, Scott (Jen), Sarah (Carter), Allison (Jeffery), Amy, Kayla (Stanley), Luke (Emily), Samuel, Kristen (Nate), Emily, Julian, Brett, Logan, William, Alissa (Reuben), Derek, Nicole, Dryson; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Kay worked for 27 years at the Gibson County Courthouse as a custodian where her attention to detail was appreciated by those she served.  She attended the Princeton Holiness Tabernacle and loved her church family.

She is lovingly remembered for enjoying yard sales, Dr. Pepper, ice cream, corn bread, riding in her son’s semi-truck, playing Skip’Bo, traveling to see her children and grandchildren, long phone calls, cleaning, organizing and sitting on her porch swing.

Kay loved life to the fullest and found joy and contentment in the little things. She is remembered for her kindness and friendliness.  She loved her Lord, her family and her many friends. Her contagious smile, joyous laughter and genuine care for others impacted many throughout her lifetime.

The visitation and funeral will be held at Colvin Funeral Home, 425 N. Main St., Princeton, IN.  Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with son-in-law, Rev. Tim Wiford officiating.

Interment will be at the Hamline Chapel Cemetery at 9167 E. Hamline Chapel Rd., Monroe City, IN, following the funeral service.
