Kay Stephens Obituary

On Sunday, June 12, Kay Adel Stephens (Beckerman) went to be with her Lord and Savior.  Kay was the youngest daughter of the late Virgil and Wilma (Austin) Beckerman, born May 7, 1955 and resided in Princeton her whole life.

Kay is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, James; siblings, Karen Farlow (Dr. James) of Auburn, IN and Dr. Ken Beckerman (Sharon) of Hazelton, IN; nieces Jill Vance (Bryan), Erin Farlow (Ethan), Tecia Tibbe (Tim) and Michelle Bladl (Brian); several great nieces and nephews; and her “adopted” daughter and special family friend, Candice Davidson..

Kay was a graduate of the Princeton Community HS Class of 1973, received a BA in Social Work in 1977 from Anderson University, Anderson, IN and received a MA from the University of Evansville in 1994.  She was the second longest tenured employee of the Gibson County ARC (now ARC of Southwest Indiana), having served for more than forty-four years as the Director of Children’s Services, WIC Coordinator, and other various positions.  She retired in December of 2021.

Kay was a faithful follower of Christ and worshipped at the First Church of God, Princeton (now Tower Heights COG), where she sang in the choir and served as the girls’ youth group leader for several years.  More recently while attending Mt. Pleasant Church of God, she served as a greeter and was the Chairperson of the Board of Elders.  She was faithful in her daily devotions and loved belonging to a women’s bible study group with friends in Owensville, IN., that gave her the spiritual enrichment she desired.

Kay loved to travel whether on day trips, long weekends or extended vacations and always enjoyed seeing new sites and having new experiences.  For the past 12 years she enjoyed the trips she took with her three college best friends.  An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Kay enjoyed traveling to road games with Jim, Jim’s sister Pat and brother-in-law Jake, and rooting on her favorite team. Kay also exercised regularly and enjoyed walking with her good friend, Sandy Lawlor.

Quality time for Kay was simply spending time with her husband Jim.  She leaves a legacy of unconditional love shown to everyone she met and although her time on earth was short her memory will live in our hearts forever.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at Tower Heights Church of God, 2005 Keystone Dr., Princeton IN  on Saturday, June 18, 2022 with Pastor Bruce Applegate officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Princeton. A visitation will be held from 4 until 8:00 PM on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the church and again on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service.
