John H. Erdell

John Henry Erdell, 75, of Oakland City, IN passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital in Newburgh, IN with his son and daughter by his side. Always a Valentine, John was born on February 14, 1946 in Gibson County to Henry and Lovenia Erdell. In 1965, he graduated from Oakland City High School. John has lived his entire life on the family farm.  

A lifelong member of Oak Grove Church in Oakland City, his “church family” brought him much comfort and joy throughout his life and especially during his most recent health challenges.  His love of showing and riding horses transitioned to a love of horsepower in his Corvettes.  John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as well as going out for good food. He always looked forward to trips with his son to sprint car races and car shows. 

John who was often referred to as John Henry by many is survived by his daughter, Belinda Wallbank (Tom) of Zionsville; son, Jeffrey Erdell (Tela) of Newburgh; his grandchildren; and first cousin, Gloria Ann Sterczer of Princeton, IN.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm central time on Friday, December 10, 2021 and from 12:30 to 2 pm central time Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City.  The funeral service will be held at 2 pm and officiated by Brad Feldmeier with burial following at the Forsythe Church Cemetery in Oakland City, IN.
