John J. Burris

John J. Burris, age 93, passed away on August 1, 2026 at Deaconess Memorial Medical Center in Jasper. He was a dedicated family man that loved the Lord, his family and the Princeton community.

John was born in Paducah, KY on March 2, 1933 to John and Rachel Burris. He was one of eight children. The family moved to Evansville in 1939. John graduated from Central High School in 1952, then served 2 years in the U.S. Army. Afterwards, he started a career in banking which eventually led him to move his young family to Princeton in 1961 when he joined Perpetual Savings and Loan. He retired as President of Perpetual in 1995.

John enjoyed an active role in the community through the Kiwanis Club, Princeton Chamber of Commerce, serving as a YMCA Camp Carson board member, North Gibson School Corporation board member, United Way board member, GCARC board member and Gibson County Fair board member. He was also well known for being the driving force behind the restoration of the Princeton railroad depot, a project he loved and spent countless hours on over many years. John was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years but most recently attended Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton.

John is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carolyn; children, Teresa Beadles (Jed), Tim Burris (Emily), Tom Burris (Ruth) and Tammy Rumple (Larry); grandchildren, Lane Rumple, Heath Rumple, David Burris, Eric Burris, Zach LaGrange (Sarah) and Tim LaGrange (Beth); great-grandchildren, Ray, Daniel, Evelyn, Emmett and Margot; sister, Marianna May; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Paul, Kenny, Letha, Stella, Betty Lou and Mildred; and granddaughter, Halie Bruder.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton with Pastor Kevin Wilson officiating followed by burial at Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation will be from 11 am until the hour of service on Thursday at the church.
