Janice Marie Tapley Binkley, 72, of Oakland City, Indiana, passed away on April 7, 2026, with her family by her side.
She was born on February 28, 1954. Janice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Janice is survived by her loving husband, James Binkley; her children, Ladonna (Josh) Dillon, Jeromie (Shawna) Riley, Melvin Jr. (Megan) Tapley, Jody (Melissa) Tapley, James (Danni) Tapley, Tammy (Eric) Wright, Amy Dieg, Chris (Chanel) Binkley, and Melody (Ken) Branch. She also leaves behind 30 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Melvin Tapley Sr.; her parents, Carrie and Virgil; siblings, Vivian Greentree, Virgil “Bud” Greentree, James Greentree, Helen Coomer, and Mary Greentree; and her daughter-in-law, Lisa.
Janice spent many years working at Bussler’s, Burr’s Donut Shop, and Emerson’s, where she formed lasting friendships and touched many lives. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards and was deeply passionate about her faith, her family, and her friends. Janice worked closely with Special Olympics. She was a dedicated member of the Oakland City Church of the Nazarene and the Salvation Army.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Oakland City Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Darin Nossett officiating. A luncheon will follow. She will be laid to rest at Archer Cemetery later this summer. A date will be announced closer to time.
Janice will always be remembered for the incredible love she showed to others. She had a special way of making everyone feel like true family, and her kindness and warmth will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
