Gene Bottoms Obituary

Gene Allen Bottoms Sr., 78, of Winslow, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at his home. He was born January 15, 1943 in Petersburg to the late Sarah Catherine (Sanders) Bottoms and Donald Woodrow Bottoms. He served in the U.S. Army until 1967 and retired in 1994 after 30+ years with Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and spent all of his time enjoying raising chickens and rabbits, and spending time with his dog, Daisy.

He is survived by his children, Allen Bottoms (Joan), Jason Bottoms (Erica Webb) and David Powers; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Judy Bauer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Bottoms; a daughter-in-law, April Powers; a brother, Donnie Bottoms; and sisters, Joy Roach and Pansy Morning.

Visitation will take place from 12 pm to 2 pm (central time) on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, with a service to follow at 2 pm, with Pastor Gary Arnold officiating. Interment will follow at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City. Military rites will be held there, provided by the Gibson County Retired Military Veterans.

The family requests that masks be worn to the visitation and service.
