Floy Jacobus Obituary

Floy L. Jacobus, 97, of Princeton, IN passed away Wednesday June 3, 2026. She was born September 13, 1928 in LaGrange County, IN to Merlin Immell and Hazel (Stayner) Immell. Floy married the love of her life, Robert Herschel “Jake” Jacobus, May 2, 1952 and was blessed with 48 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. She proudly graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s degree. Floy retired at the end of 1994 from Purdue Extension of Gibson County after 27 years as a Home Educator. After retirement she enjoyed meeting up and having lunch with the other retirees and taking road trips, especially to presidential libraries. Floy was one of the first female members of Princeton Kiwanis. She was also a founding member of the Cinderella Club and heavily involved with Gibson County Extension Homemakers. Floy loved her community and was a great community member. She wanted to help teach others about home economics skills, food, and nutrition. Floy was involved with the Gibson County 4-H where she was a 4-H judge in multiple counties in Indiana. She and her children would be at the Fair for Fair week, sometimes from sun up to sun down. Floy sewed in her younger years and made beautiful quilt blocks, bags, clothing for her children, and Halloween costumes. She enjoyed spending time talking politics, watching Gunsmoke and gameshows, reading Danielle Steel books, tending to her flowers, trees, and animals. Floy was a member of the VFW. She was such a caring person, that is loved and missed by many. Floy would want us all to live by her moto: Live and let Live.

Floy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Herschel “Jake” Jacobus; sister, Genevieve Green; nephews, Donnie Kline, and Ronny Kline.

She is survived by her children, Beth (Dan) Smythe, Ben (Mary Zickefoose) Jacobus, Robert (Mary Anne) Jacobus, and Rebecca Ann (John) Sherfey; grandchildren, Austin Smythe, Ian Smythe, Andrew (Kelly) Sherfey, Carrie Slack, and Lee Ann Stewart; brother-in-law, Max (Penny) Jacobus; nieces, Linda Boyd and Laura Jacobus; nephew, Luke (Barbara) Jacobus; and 4 great-grandchildren.
