Cathy Hayes Obituary

Cathy Ann Hayes, 71, of Oakland City, IN left us too soon on Friday, February 27, 2026. She was born May 20, 1954 in Pensacola, FL to James David Warnsman and Martha Catherine (Hightower) Warnsman. Cathy was in the 1972 graduating class of Wood Memorial High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Oakland City College and her Master’s degree from Indiana State University. Cathy proudly worked as the Art teacher for 39 years between Petersburg and Winslow Elementary School.

She will be remembered for her exquisite garden that surrounded her house and always decorating for each and every holiday. Cathy liked to spend her spare time reading a good book, spending time practicing yoga at her sister’s studio, and participating in the Pike County retired teacher’s group. She enjoyed searching for the best bargain when antique and flea market shopping. Cathy loved spending time with her neighbors, collecting pig figurines, and being with her family. She was loved by so many and is already deeply missed.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Anne Johnson; and the father of her children, Timothy Benjamin.

She is survived by her daughters, Natalie (Jason) Mills and Abigail (Chris) Vinnedge; grandchildren, Tessa Vinnedge and Tuff Vinnedge; step-grandchildren, Jaylon Mills and Brailey Mills; siblings, Deborah (Ed) Rodimel and David (Heather) Warnsman; nephews, Justin (Brandi) Eyer, Caleb (Nichole) Eyer, Patrick (Chelsee) Eyer, Maverick Gines, and Sam (Audrey) Gines; best friend, Andra DeHaven; and several aunts; uncles; and cousins.
