Arkie Cooper

Arkie Cooper, 95, of Oakland City, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City. He was born March 20, 1926 in Shawneetown, Illinois to the late Jack Cooper and Georgina (Stanley) Cooper. He married Betty Lou (Davis) Cooper on May 4, 1945 and they were blessed with 53 years together before her passing in 1998. He had worked in construction all of his life. Arkie was an animal lover and a family man. He was good looking and always put his family first. He was a great father and liked having fun. His children are thankful for his good memory. He was a likable person who never met a stranger.   

Arkie is survived by his daughters, Vickie McCandless, Helen Dersch (Henry), Sharon Vore (Kevin), and Freida McCandless; 16 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 36 great-great-grandchildren.   

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Georgina; wife, Betty; sons, Arkie Lou and Calvin; and daughters, Mary Linda and Julie.  

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM (CST) Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City officiated by Pastor Alan Brock. Interment will follow at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City. A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 4 to 8:00 PM (CST) and a morning visitation Wednesday from 9:00 AM (CST) until the hour of service, 1:00 PM (CST) at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City.
