Alice Williams Obituary

Alice Mae (Joyce) Williams, 102, passed away on September 13, 2020. She was born on August 20, 1918 in Sandoval, Illinois, the youngest of 9 children of Maurice and Annie (Saddler) Joyce. She had three sisters: Mary (Alva) Bohner, Helen (Robert) Barkhurst, and Annetta (Harry) Burge; three brothers Lysle (Elsie) Joyce, Jacob (Dell) Joyce, and James C (Cecilia) Joyce. All preceded her in death along with a 6-year-old sister Margaret and a sister Nellie who died shortly after birth in 1905. She married Glenn Allen Williams of Sandoval, Illinois on July 19, 1946. They would have been happily married 65 years in the year of his death.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law Glenda Joyce (Dr. Thomas) Skinner of Gallipolis, Ohio, and a son and daughter-in-law Michael Allen (Betty) Williams of Princeton, Indiana. Alice was quite proud of her 3 grandchildren: Dr. Carolyn Skinner (spouse Dr. Dan Keller) of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Dr. Bethany Skinner (spouse Dr. Patrick Buck) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Dr. Allen Skinner (spouse Dr. Candace Runyan) of San Diego, California. She particularly loved her 4 great-grandchildren: Graham and Miranda Keller, Rowan Buck, and Scarlett Skinner. She is also survived by a special nephew Allan Mason, and other nephews and nieces and their families.

Alice was a 1936 graduate of Sandoval High School and worked in the Auditor’s Office in Salem, Illinois, during World War II. She and her husband moved to Princeton, Indiana, in 1951 where they remained until their deaths. Alice was a long-time Secretary at Francisco School and past president of the PTO and band boosters. She often volunteered at the school as a Grey Lady. She maintained a membership in the Cisne #973 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.

In lieu of flowers, Alice’s family suggests donations to the Francisco Cemetery, in care of Virgil Hurt (2234 S 650 E, Francisco, Indiana, 47649).

Special thanks to the staff at River Oaks for their kindness, professionalism, and care.
