James E. Johnson

James E. “Red” Johnson, 83, of Princeton and formerly of Texas, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton. He was born on November 1, 1934 in Kennedy, Texas to Lee Marvin and Ollie Gertrude (Baker) Johnson. Red was a self-employed welder in the oil field industry for over 40 years. He was a former member of the Rifleman’s Association in Texas.

He is survived by his wife to whom he married in 2014, Beverly Johnson of Princeton; daughter, Linda Darby (Steve) of Cove, TX; step daughter, Cindy Smart (Scott) of Remington, IN; step sons, Bob Hawkins (Beth) of Princeton and Steve Hawkins (Marie) of Nashville, TN; 2 grandchildren, Bryce Darby of Pearland, TX and Christine Darby Gery (Will) of Tucson, AZ; 3 great grandchildren, Carson & Ethen Darby and Caellum Gery; sister, Theresa P. Dyer of Kerrville, TX; several step grandchildren and step great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Don Johnson; 4 brothers, Jesse Lee, Roy Melvin, Foy E. and Robert Martin Johnson; and a sister, Jewell Jane Luther.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by Pastor Kevin Wilson. There will be no burial. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
