Gary Andrew Stoll 80, born in Princeton IN, August 30, 1937 passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at his home in Princeton.  He was the youngest son of F.X. and Marie (Weist) Stoll, who are deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jo Beth (Crownover) Stoll, two sisters, Frances Marie Stoll, former Princeton Mayor Shirley (Stoll) Robb and granddaughter, Natasha Kimberling.

Gary graduated from St. Joseph Grade School, Princeton High School and Tulane University in New Orleans. After graduation he worked several jobs, but most of his life he worked for Standard Oil which became Amoco Oil and is now British Petroleum.  He was a sales representative for Standard Oil for 10 years and a self–employed Standard/Amoco station operator for 30 years. His youngest son, Chris, a National Merit Scholar, received a corporate scholarship to DePauw University from Amoco. His last 14 years of work, before his retirement, he worked for the city of Princeton under Mayor Shirley Robb as Street Commissioner and later as Sanitation Superintendent, before retiring in 2013.

Gary’s brothers Joe and Roy were former Princeton High School Basketball stars. Joe played on the Final Four Team at North Carolina State and Roy, an Indiana Basketball “Hall of Famer”, stared at Tulane University. Carrying on the family tradition, Gary played basketball and baseball at both Princeton High School and Tulane. His athletic highlights came in 1950, when as a 13 year old he won the Boys Club National Free Throw contest, making 59 out of 60 free throws. In 1957 he was the starting guard for Tulane and that was first year the team had ever beaten Kentucky.  Finally, in 1959 Gary was voted Tulane’s MVP and was selected to the all S.E.C. Basketball Team.

Gary was proud of his children’s academic and athletic accomplishments, which included, Gary Jr. graduating from Purdue, Rich graduating from Michigan, P.J. graduating from Indiana, Chris graduating from DePauw and Harvard Law School, and Suzy graduating from Indiana.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton and was a life member of the K. of C., a past member of the Elks, Eagles and V.F.W. Auxiliary. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors, going to high school basketball games and being with other people!
