David Specht Obituary

David R. Specht, 77, of Ft. Branch passed away November 6th with his family by his side. He was born April 30, 1942 in Evansville, IN to the late Richard and Marion Specht.

David graduated from Memorial High School in 1960 after attending St. Meinrad Seminary for two years. He graduated from Evansville College in 1966 and received his Master’s in 1972 from University of Evansville. He was an educator when he started his career at St. Clement’s Catholic School in Boonville where he was the first lay Principal in the Evansville Diocese. He spent 27 years teaching at Princeton Community High School. He taught primarily in the business department and established the Tennis program in 1973, which he coached 19 years, as well as coaching basketball for six years. David was inducted into the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999. He served as President of the North Gibson Education Association for 13 years and was Teacher of the Year in 1989 for the North Gibson School Corporation and a semi-finalist that year for Indiana’s Teacher of the Year. After retiring from education David worked at Toyota as an Assessor and Eagle Valley Golf Course.

David, loving husband to Diana for 56 years worked hard to make the best life for his wife and children. He always supported his children and grandchildren and gave them encouragement always to “do their best”, be hard workers and strive to finish what they started. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in athletics throughout the country. David loved to make furniture for his children, grandchildren and many of his friends. He learned many of his woodworking skills from his father who could fix most anything. Along with woodworking, David enjoyed playing golf in his retirement years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea Renee; and sister, Shannon. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diana; his children Julie (Bill) Bryant of Tell City; Brian (Kathleen) of Munster, IN; Keith (Loni) of Princeton. He has seven grandchildren; Amber Bryant; Valley (Lathan) Couts; Kyela Specht; Wade Bryant; Matthew Specht; Cassie Bryant, and Peyton Specht. He has five great grandchildren; Lynnex, Landrie, Laila and Beckham Couts and Bentley Bryant.
